The One I Have Not Yet Become
From the series “What would remain of the enlightened one…”Acrylic on canvas · 70 × 100 cm · 2026
Available · Price upon request
Siddhartha is not yet the Buddha. Before him is the face of the one he may become: an image of knowledge and truth he has yet to attain.
The painting turns to the moment before the Great Departure, when the future enlightened one is still a man — a prince, a husband and a father — and decides to leave his familiar life in search of liberation from suffering.
The mask here does not hide a true face. It embodies a future identity. Between the man and the image of the Buddha remains a space of choice, doubt and the unknown cost of transformation.
What happens at the moment a person decides to stop being who they were, without yet knowing who they will become?
